Description
:
This Officers coat has a "falling" collar, blackened  rimless federal buttons, and patch pockets.
This piece has copper BB & B Cavalry Collar pins.
This piece also has copper Tiffany's "US" Collar pins.
This grouping also has a RIA M1902 Garrison Belt with rivets in the belt holes.
The belt has a M1905 .38 cal holster & RIA sword  hangers.
History:
The service coats worn by enlisted men in the US Army during the World War I time period trace their lineage to the War Department’s 1902 General Order Number 81, which established “olive-drab service uniforms for winter wear” and a “service uniform for summer wear and for the Tropics . . .” Though seemingly a sweeping change, only the wool cold weather coat differed significantly from its previous iteration through its color change from blue to olive drab and the addition of four exterior pockets. From 1902 to 1911 several pattern changes were made that altered the collars of both from “roll” to “standing/falling” to “standing;” the pockets from “patch” to “’choked bellows’” to “patch;” and the cuffs from “pointed” to “plain.”
This coat is a very early Officers coat of the Olive Drab type.
This coat is based off of the Enlisted Mens M1904 Specification 700 Wool Service Coat.
This piece has a single stich at the cuff like a M1917 Wool Service Coat. The pockets are of the patch pocket type much like the M1912 Wool Service Coat. Finally, the collar is of the "roll" or "falling" type.
This coat is exact to the Enlistedmens M1904 P400 with the exception of the cuff that is a single stich where the mohair band would be on the M1907 Officers Wool Service Coat.
