    Description

This is a Spanish American machete designed and manufactured by Collins to be primarily a weapon but to be useful for brush clearing as well. Cuban rebel mounted troops fighting Spanish forces needed a combination saber and machete and this No. 22 was Collins' answer. This machete was also provided to the American volunteer troops or "Rough Riders" that landed in Cuba in 1898. It is in very good condition with no pitting and has evidence of use, there is a hole on the blade of unknown origin, could be factory, original horn handle with lanyard hole, it is 31 inches overall and the blade is 25 7/8 inches long, it has a leather sheath, which is in good condition but for some damage at the bottom edge (see picture).
